Mahavatar Babaji Cave : A Spiritual Journey to Himalayas

This is my story to Mahavatar Babaji cave in the foothills of Himalayas and what experience I got from this journey.

I love reading books. I always search for good books that can help me to find the deeper dimensions of this life. In this search, I came across a title called “Autobiography of a Yogi”.

Many great people, celebrities, and spiritual leaders were recommending this book. Also, this was the favorite book of Steve Jobs and it got distributed in a brown box at his memorial service as a farewell gift. So I decided to order and read this book.

After reading the Autobiography of a Yogi, I got lost in another realm of life for some time. I was thinking about the vast possibilities of life, and how we are limited to a small portion of this reality.

This book was a real-life example of the possibilities that we can experience after realizing ourselves. This book shows a way to go deeper within and actualize ourselves.

And miracles are just the state of mind. Miracles start appearing in our lives once we go beyond the ego and connect to the higher intelligence, the god.

In this book, there is a chapter where Lahiri Mahasaya visits Mahavatar Babaji cave in the Himalayas through some pre-planned miracle events and meets his guru Mahavatar Babaji.

After searching, I found this cave is situated on Dunagiri Mountain in Dwarahat town of Uttarakhand, India. In pictures and videos, I felt a deep connection with this place so I added it to my travel bucket list.

To visit Babaji cave first we need to reach Dwarahat City in Uttrakhand. From Dwarahat we need to go toward Kukuchina, which is the last motorable place. Kukuchina is 25 km from Dwarahat. From Kukuchina there is a 2 km long dirt road, which is very narrow. If you have a small car then you can drive on this dirt road for 2km. So from Kukuchina Babaji cave is on 3 Km distance, 2 Km dirt road and one km of mountain hiking.

I will suggest you start your trek from Kukuchina because the 2 km dirt road is very narrow and it will be difficult to pass if any vehicle comes from the opposite direction.

How to Reach Dwarahat from Delhi: Dwarahat is in the Almora district of Uttarakhand.

You can take a bus from Delhi ISBT to Almora or Ranikhet. From there you can get another public transport to Dwarahat. Dwarahat is around 400 Km from Delhi and 37 Km from Ranikhet.

There is one another way to reach Dwarahat which is: Delhi> Haridwar>Rishikesh>Srinagar>Karanprayag>Gairsen>Dwarahat.

Use this way if you are staying somewhere nearby Rishikesh. If you are coming from Delhi then it’s better to use the First route which is via Ranikhet.

How My Journey Got Started to Mahavatar Babaji Cave

On Dec 12, 2020, I was chilling in Nainital Uttarakhand with one of my friends. When I searched about Babaji cave, I found out that it’s not very far from here.
So we decided to visit Babaji cave on 13 Dec 2020. We were staying in Bhowali which is about 12 km from Nainital.
On 13 Dec early morning, we started our Journey from Bhowali toward Ranikhet. After a small break in Ranikhet, we started towards Dwarahat. From Dwarahat we took the Road toward Dunagiri Mountains and Reached Kukuchina. We were traveling by our car so we decided to drive another 2 Km of dirt road.
Finally, we reached a small village where we parked our car and started hiking for another one kilometer.
When you start Hiking. you will find a House. In that house lives some kind and beautiful people. While coming back we stayed with that family for some time and enjoyed a cup of Tea.

My Divine Experience

When I started hiking the tranquil peaceful mountain filled with the beauty of nature, I felt a deep sense of connectivity with the divine. I had read a lot about Babaji after reading the Autobiography of a yogi. So it felt like I am meeting him today in person.

Away from the busy life, walking in this solitude of the beautiful nature with a sense of divine inside, was pure bliss. It felt like my mind was going into a beautiful trance like state.

Our reaction to something depends on the definition we have created inside us for that thing. The people who have never gone through the story of Babji will see it as a simple cave. But those who have been deeply connected with it will see it as bliss.

I reached the cave and sat there for some time in peace with a sense of Babaji inside me. After that, I meditated for some time and it really took me beyond the hustle of life into a deeper state of Peace.

Finally, we clicked a few photographs and came back.

Final Note

Mahavatar Babaji cave is not a very famous destination, Only people who have read the Autobiography of a yogi and allowed this knowledge to connect them with the source of life, prefer to visit this cave.

If you visit the cave without any knowledge about the history of this cave, it will be just another cave in the quiet mountains for you. But if you are coming here after reading everything about it, you will sense a divine touch.

This place is in absolute solitude. Most of the spiritual places are crowded nowadays, but this place is different.

Very few people travel to this location. When we reached the cave no other people were there except us. So we got a chance to go deeper in in this bliss of natural and spiritual beauty.

Visiting Babaji cave was one of my long term desires. I felt blessed after visiting it. Every experience changes something inside us and this did too.
