I Just Want to Be Happy Again: 12 Ways to Find Happiness Back

“I just want to be happy again.” This is what we say when we have gone through enough darkness in our life.

Love, peace, and joy is the true nature of our being. All the suffering is generated by the voice of the ego that is constantly speaking inside our head.

When we are going through a deep depression, anxiety, overthinking and negativity, we ask ourselves “Will I ever be happy again?”

Remember, Our life is a product of the habits we have hardwired in our brain. 

We have learned to be unhappy by practicing it again and again, day by day. In the same way, we can learn to be happy again. 

You are not alone, many people are going through this and many have overcome it and living a happy life now. 

Food seems tastier when we are hungry. In the same way, life becomes more beautiful once you live it after being in the dark for a long time.

As above, so below“, is one popular statement that means “What is inside that is outside”. 

Whatever we are experiencing in outer life is a projection of our inner world. 

If we keep repeating the old habits we will be in the same situation. We need to look out of the window instead of focusing on the darkness in the room. 

Read the books, Search the internet, you will find that thousands of people have done this. You can too.

We are here on this planet to have our experiences and learn our lesson. So do not resist it. Observe it and release it with love.

Below are a few practices that helped me when I was feeling down. You can apply them in your life.

1. Meditation to Be Happy Again

We have a continuous loop of negativity and overthinking running in our head. That is creating the same external reality every day. 

We need to break this loop of negativity. 

Meditation is the best way to slow down your thinking and embracing calmness. 

In a normal state, our intentions don’t work if we are having a lot of negative and contradicting thoughts.

But if we set an intention in a meditative state our mind accepts it fast because in that state we do not have contradicting thoughts.

2. Self Love Affirmation Meditation

If we are going through negativity and self-sabotaging behavior means we are lacking self-love. 

We are allowing others to control our lives. We are having self-worth issues. We think we are not enough and we try to please others.

Once we become greater than our circumstances and start loving ourselves, everything else falls into the place.

Positive self love affirmations

We need to choose ourselves, we need to give first priority to ourselves.

We are here to feel love and joy not to sacrifice life. Sacrificing will neither help you nor other people around you. 

Only when you love yourself, you will be able to help others. So self-love is not selfish.

3. Affirmation Loop to Be Happy Again

If we are going through depression and anxiety, negative thoughts keep coming during the day. If we don’t control these thoughts, they will keep taking us into our old reality.

To encounter these we need to repeat a positive affirmation in the loop. 

Whenever something negative comes up, we repeat an affirmation and bring ourselves back into a positive mood.

Positive self love affirmations

To do that, whenever a negative thought comes up, repeat your affirmation, surrender the situation that is connected with the negative thought to the divine intelligence or God, and bring yourself into a positive surrendered state.

Affirmations can be like “I am in Love With Myself” or “Thank you God for everything” whichever suits you. Or you can create your affirmation.

Love yourself is the best book I found on Self-Love. This practice is a part of that book.

4. Count Your Blessings

What we focus on, grows. If we keep focusing on problems, more problems will come. 

If we look around for good things in life and appreciate them more good will come. 

Daily gratitude and meditation are the practices I think everyone must do. Gratitude has a magical power to change lives for good.

Every day, sit quietly for some time and count your blessings. You can write down 10 things you are grateful for or you can just close your eyes and say thank you for all the good things in your life.

5. Think About Your Desires

When we think about our desires and live them in our head, it puts us on a positive track of hope and expectation. 

Every day give some time to your desires. It will take you from the negativity of the past to a new 

One best method for this is writing a letter to the universe. You can combine this practice with the gratitude practice.

Here, every day you will write a mail to the Universe. In this mail first, you will write about the things you are grateful for. After that, you will write your desires.

6. Deal With People Properly

There can be people in your life who keep you bringing back in the loop of negativity. Maybe they are not wrong but unknowingly they are pushing you into the dark.

Just don’t let your mind auto-respond when you are communicating with them. Just choose yourself, think about your happiness and the self-love commitment you have done to yourself.

Commit that you will not lose your state of love and happiness for any person or situation.

The person or situation is not outside, it’s a part of you. When you release the cause from your mind the outer situation will be changed.

7. Trust, Surrender and Taking 100% Responsibility With Ho'oponopono

Hoʻoponopono is a Hawaiian technique of forgiveness. This technique is designed to erase negativity from our mind.

According to this technique, everything outside is a part of us. When we achieve peace with something inside us it will be changed outside.

Hoʻoponopono says:

  1. If we are facing any problem, means there is some error in our thinking needs to be corrected
  2. Take 100% responsibility, because you have generated it. Taking responsibility will set you free. If you are blaming others for your situation then it will be difficult to release negativity
  3. Surrender everything to God and let it cleanse your negative patterns
  4. Full trust in higher intelligence or God. If you are tense about the past or anxious about the future means you are not trusting.

8. Celebrate Intentionally

If we are living in negativity we separate ourselves from the joy and playfulness around us. We just want to be alone. 

But life will only dance with us if we go out and dance with life. 

Use your willpower, go beyond your negative patterns and start enjoying life. Laugh with people, enjoy comedy movies and shows live the joyful events taking place around you. 

Do it intentionally even if your mind is against it.

9. Believe, There is a Higher Power

Every time you feel low, believe there is a higher power that is taking care of you. 

This power has changed the life of many people and any moment can be your miracle moment.

Trust this power, keep sending out positivity. Your job is just to be happy and present. Don’t think about the past or future, just be in a surrendered state and let this power fix everything.

10. Make Other People Happy

Maybe you are thinking that you have nothing to do good for others. But it’s not reality. 

Whenever you get a chance, do good for others. You can volunteer for any NGO or organizations that are working for the betterment of this planet.

11. Prayer

Prayers are very powerful and fill us with immense hope and expectation. We know what is impossible for us, god can do easily.

Everyday you can give some time to prayer. Be thankful to god for what you have and surrender all your burdens.  Ask god to come in your life and take charge of everything. And send your intention by asking “Lord, I Just want to be happy again.”

12. Forgive and Let Go

You can not be free until you forgive everyone in your life. If you want to be free you need to do this.

Just set an intention for forgiving and surrender it to Divine. Whenever you feel any anger just surrender it.

Change is the law of nature. Nothing is permanent. People, situations everything will be changed. Don’t lose hope. 

In the coming years when you will be living life to the fullest, if you look back, you will smile at this time. You will not have anger but gratitude. Because it taught you a lesson and made you who you are.
